David’s Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation had a record-breaking year in 2016, providing a total of $215,457.97 in direct financial assistance to 244 families primarily in New Jersey battling a cancer diagnosis. Since its founding in 2011, the local nonprofit organization has helped 763 families with a total of $621,813.06 in financial grants.

Other major milestones for the year included Equity Prime Mortgage’s planned giving initiative that set an all-time record of $24,375 in donations. Donations are used toward a host of services for families with a cancer diagnosis, including financial assistance for medications, treatments, transportation, rent, mortgage and utility bills.

Two new fundraising events, Shave the Date presented by Swing Graphics and The Inaugural Frank A. Cosimano Memorial Golf Classic presented by Bergen Risk Managers, were a major success in 2016 as well.

Please take a minute to visit our website for the full blog on our 2016 accomplishments and know that if you attended one of our events, donated an auction item, sponsored an event, volunteered or made an individual donation - YOU are responsible for providing HOPE to a family diagnosed with cancer that desperately needs our help,” said David Caldarella, foundation founder. “We are honored to have the support of the community as we continue to act as A Beacon of Hope for local families, as well as a resource for Thomas Jefferson University during their mission trip to Haiti.”

The foundation also established a new directors of patient advocacy board in 2016 consisting of patients, caregivers and medical personnel. Shamrock For HOPE, a new event organized entirely by the directors in the spirit of "paying it forward,” will take place at Breeze’s Bar and Dock in New Gretna on March 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. Tickets, which can be purchased in advance online through March 5, include a free buffet, one complimentary glass of wine or beer, one sponsor pint glass, one event T-shirt and live music by the Melanie and Tony duo. The event will also include an auction and Party Crashers Gaming Trailer.

Group cofounder Carmen Malatino and Kelly Powers were welcomed back to the board of directors in 2016. New board members include Jason Cosimano, Steve Crisalli and Bill Raney, former director of patient advocacy. Lauren M. Raney, director of patient advocacy, was appointed as the inaugural trustee emeritus.

Office space in Manahawkin was also secured for the foundation.
