Area Libraries Collecting Prom Dresses for Distribution

Mar 01, 2017

The Ocean County Library is seeking donations of gently used prom dresses for its eighth annual prom dress giveaway.

Kate Sanchez, supervising librarian/public relations, said donations can include modern dresses in both long and short styles, in a wide range of sizes. The library is not accepting donations of bridesmaid dresses, shoes or jewelry. Distributing branches are also seeking donations of dress racks and mirrors. The giveaway provides dresses, free of charge, to all teens looking to attend formal school functions. Last year more than 700 prom dresses were distributed.

Sanchez said donations are accepted at any one of the Ocean County Library’s 21 locations until Monday, April 24. The Barnegat branch will be one of several branches serving as giveaway sites, as dresses will be distributed there on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 25 and 26, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on both dates.

Information about the giveaway can be found online at theoceancountylibrary.org or by calling 732-349-6200. E.E.
