To the Editor:
Marilyn Wasilewski is a long-time resident of Barnegat Light. She’s been a member of the LBI school board for 18 years representing Barnegat Light. Her focus is the children of LBI while being fiscally responsible to the taxpayers.
She believes strongly in the consolidation of the LBI School in Ship Bottom with the EJ School in Surf City. There is declining enrollment. At this moment, the children from both schools can fit into one school. There are two bids of more than $9 million, which would satisfy the needs for an addition to the EJ School. Marilyn believes in accepting one of the bids. The vote for this has failed by 4 to 3, with countless meetings that have become a saga.
At the time of this writing there are three scenarios. The first is to take the bid and consolidate the schools. The second is to float a $14 million referendum to add additional space for 100 children. Marilyn opposes this because there is a trend toward a declining population. The third is to sell the property to Ship Bottom for $4 million. That would mean the other towns would have to foot the bill for the difference. Marilyn has voted against this.
I urge Barnegat Light residents to vote for Marilyn for school board, representing the children’s interests and the taxpayers of Barnegat Light.
