Derek Forbes, of Simple Minds Fame, at Nardi’s This Saturday
Remember Simple Minds?
In 1985, the Scottish post-punk new wave pop rockers pleaded, “Don’t You (Forget About Me).”
This Saturday, experience the Derek Forbes invasion, when the band’s original bass player, songwriter and international superstar, Derek Forbes, takes to the Nardi’s stage to transport the crowd to the “synthpunk era” with a musical performance enhanced by nostalgia-inducing audio-visuals from the 1980s.
Forbes brings with him a band of all-stars, including guitarists Brian Bortnick, of Octane fame, and John McNutt, a summertime staple of LBI, pianist Tim McKinstry and drummer Marc Iezzi. Forbes himself was recognized for his body of work this year when he won the 61st Ivor Novello Award for outstanding song collection. The Ivors are the UK’s equivalent of the Grammys’ Lifetime Achievement Award, according to Shore Bets Talent Management owner Al Geary.
Pianist and vocalist extraordinaire Allison Stella plays the earlier time slot on Saturday, from 5 to 9 p.m., and Forbes and company go on at 10. —V.F.
