Desperate Act

May 10, 2017

To the Editor:

Congressman MacArthur’s amendment that was instrumental in reconciling differences between staunch conservative and moderate Republicans in the House leading to passage of the health bill by two votes was not an act that helps people.

Rather, it was an act of pure politics to give both the House majority and the president a desperately needed “win” to the detriment of the many families and individuals who will be hurt by its provisions.

Shame on you, Congressman; you’re better than that. What the country needs is a single-payer health system such as we have in Medicare, Medicaid and the VA.
