Grateful for Support
To the Editor:
On behalf of the board of trustees of the New Jersey Maritime Museum, I wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support of our annual fundraiser event, themed “1916 New Jersey Shark Attacks – 100 Years Later.” An incredible selection of foods, donated by Okie’s Butcher Shop, Tom Hughes, John Brennan, Kate & Allies, Gretchen Coyle, Jay Cranmer, Barry’s Do Me A Flavor, Acme Supermarket, Buckalew’s and others satisfied the diverse tastes of all who attended.
Our Chinese auction consisted of 59 individual prizes, each valued between $200 and $350. Our silent auction, consisting of prizes of higher value, included such donations as half-day fishing trips, Andrea Doria artifacts, Microsoft Xbox systems, Black Pearl cruises, “his & her” Electra bicycles, duck decoys and prime seats to an Eagles vs. Redskins game at Lincoln Financial Field.
We can’t begin to express our gratitude to countless business owners, individuals, museum members, trustees and volunteers who generously donated food, funds, gift certificates, merchandise, advertising space and untold hundreds of hours of service. Although we assure our donors that we only ask for their support once each year, we know that such demands are made by many organizations throughout the year. We strongly encourage everyone to show their gratitude by patronizing the businesses that support such worthy events.
And, finally, we thank our attendees; without your continued support, the museum would not be able to fulfill its mission to preserve our state’s rich maritime history. Next year’s fundraiser will take place Saturday, Sept. 9, themed “Sailing Into The Next Decade,” a celebration of the museum’s 10th anniversary. We hope to see you there!
