Hoedown a Hootin’ Success at Surf City Firehouse
Nearly 90 people found their way to the dance floor at the Surf City firehouse last Friday to help support the local volunteer fire company and EMS during its springtime country line dance. The event is one of the women’s auxiliary’s most popular fundraisers.
“A lot of local people came. It was really nice,” said Cathleen Englesen, an auxiliary member who helps coordinate the event. “Many of them had never done this, and they loved it. It’s nice to see new people. We hope they come back.”
The well-attended event also drew line dancers from as far away as Belmar, Toms River and Galloway. Many of them are followers of instructors Lisa and Billy of BTK Entertainment, who help participants learn the Macarena, Cupid Shuffle and other fun dances, said Engelsen.
The funds raised from the event will benefit the Surf City Fire Co. Past events recently helped the auxiliary subsidize renovations to the firehouse kitchen.
The next line dance fundraiser at the firehouse will be held June 28. —K.A.E.
