Investigation: Driver in Head-On Crash Was on Prescription Drugs, Faces Numerous Charges
The driver that caused a head-on crash in the Mayetta section of Stafford last month has been arrested and charged. Eileen King, 51, of Cedar Run was arrested Oct. 3 on a $50,000 warrant set by Ocean County Superior Court and issued out of Stafford Township.
About a month prior, King was involved in a serious motor vehicle collision on Route 9 at Mayetta Landing Road, when King, heading north in her 2013 Chrysler 300C with an unrestrained 5-year-old boy in the car, drifted into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with 20-year-old Paige Spano of Tuckerton in her 1995 Geo Metro.
Spano suffered extensive injuries from the collision and is now home recovering, according to officials. The little boy in King’s car suffered moderate injuries.
After an investigation, police (Ptl. Justin Pascale, assisted by Ptl. Allen Jillson and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office) determined King was under the influence of prescription medication. She was charged with assault by auto and endangering the welfare of a child. She was lodged in Ocean County Jail in lieu of bail, pending grand jury action in Ocean County Superior Court. Additional charges against King include driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to have a child in a child restraint and failure to maintain lane. —V.F.
