The Kauriga Orchestra is well known in the Philadelphia region and had its beginnings with Paul Kauriga Sr., a classically trained string player and a viola musician with the Philadelphia Orchestra. In the early 1940s, Kauriga Sr. formed the St. Nicholas Balalaika Orchestra, The Philadelphia Balalaika Orchestra, The Balalaika Ensemble of South Jersey and The Kauriga Orchestra. With his sons forming the core of the orchestra, The Kauriga Orchestra played for hundreds of society events, political events, weddings and private celebrations. Their popularityduring this 40-year span came from their ability to play all types of music.
Today the Kauriga Orchestra carries on its tradition of playing popular music that people love. This is sure to be a heart-warming concert, perfect for a chilly autumn night.
A buffet reception to meet the orchestra members follows and is included in the ticket price. Tickets are $30 for adults, $10 for students, and are available by calling 609-296-9618 or stopping at the church at 220 East Main St. in Tuckerton during office hours. —P.J.
