During the previous few years, senior Lexi Quinn had to endure some rough times as part of the Barnegat girls lacrosse program. This season, the Bengals are a viable squad and have a better offensive attack, and she has been the catalyst in most games.

On May 16, Quinn reached a milestone, scoring the 100th goal of her career. The captain again led the offensive charge, with 10 goals, as the sixth-seeded Bengals advanced to the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group II tournament with a 17-8 win over Pinelands Regional. Barnegat (8-7) was scheduled to meet third-seeded Lower Cape May on May 19.

Against the Wildcats, Chloe McGee added two goals to the onslaught, while Kara Ferrigno, Kyla Rauch, Madelyn Santorelli, Madeline Schleicher, who also scooped up 10 ground balls, and Shannon Schiverea each scored once. Barnegat scored 11 times in the first half and limited Pinelands to just three goals during the first 25 minutes.

For the season, Quinn has scored 64 goals. McGee and Schleicher have 24 and 22 goals, respectively.

Track Athletes Fare Well
In Ocean County Meet

Both the Barnegat boys and girls track and field teams have some solid athletes, and a bunch of them fared well in the Ocean County Championships.

Barnegat junior Nico Adorno had a fantastic county meet, placing second in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes with times of 21.91 and 49.98 seconds, respectively, and took third in the 100-meter dash in 11.36 seconds. He also helped lead the 4x400-meter relay, comprised of teammates Kirston Beaucicault, Ralph Cruz and Ramone Davis Jr., to a third-place finish in 3:32.17.

Meanwhile, senior Gunnar Pearson took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.37 and the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:28.01, and sophomores Sean Morris and Brian Ewan placed third and fourth in the javelin with throws of 157 feet, 5 inches and 151 feet, 3 inches, respectively.

For the Barnegat girls, junior Ginalee Erskine recorded a fifth-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 105 feet, 9 inches, while classmates Sara Wells tossed the shot put 33 feet, 1 inch for a fifth-place spot and Kylie Picaro took sixth in the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 34 feet, 6½ inches.
