New Ordinance in Harvey Cedars Would Set Construction Limits in the Summer
By the time next summer rolls around, construction contractors would have to put their tools away by 6 p.m. in Harvey Cedars, according to an ordinance introduced by the borough commission Friday.
Borough Clerk Daina Dale said the current ordinance permits contractors to begin work on weekdays at 8 a.m., but there was no specified time when they would have to be off-site.
“We got some complaints about construction going on in the early evening,” she said.
Dale said the new ordinance sets the summer season at Memorial Day through Labor Day, where the current measure has the season beginning July 1.
She said in the off-season, construction is permitted weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“On Saturdays the hours are 8 to 6,” she said. “No construction work is permitted on Sundays unless it is being done by the homeowner.”
A public hearing on the ordinance is scheduled for the next meeting, on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 4:30 p.m. —E.E.
