NJNG Holds Annual Conservation Poster and Video Contests for Students
New Jersey Natural Gas is holding its annual “Kids and Conservation” poster and video contests to spur students to think about saving energy and protecting the environment. “The contests encourage students to use their creativity to highlight energy-saving efforts and inspire new ideas,” and gives them a chance to win individual prizes as well as rewards for their schools, the utility explains.
The contests are open to any schools within NJNG’s service territory, which includes Ocean County. Interested students and schools must register by Oct. 14, and all poster and video entries must be submitted no later than Nov. 18.
Winners will be announced in January.
“The Kids and Conservation contests are a great way to encourage the next generation to think about the positive, long-lasting impact smart energy decisions can have throughout their lives,” said Tom Hayes, director of customer and community relations at NJNG.
For the poster contest, fifth-grade students are asked to illustrate an NJNG energy-saving tip for a chance to win one of three tablets. In addition, each winning student’s school will receive a $1,000 contribution toward an energy-conservation or environmental project, plus a “Brain Show” assembly, and his or her teacher will receive a $100 gift card.
The video contest, meanwhile, encourages high school students –13 years of age and older – to showcase their energy-saving efforts and ideas with a submission focused on natural gas conservation efforts, such as heating, water heating and cooking. Both individual and group/class projects are accepted.
The individual winner of the video contest will earn $500, and the winning group submission will receive $2,500. Their schools will also get a $1,000 contribution toward an energy conservation or environmental project. And NJNG’s community partner, the Asbury Park Press, will feature the top videos on its website, where the public will vote for the winner of a $500 viewers’ choice award.
