Organization Donating Backpacks to LBI First-Graders
When school opens next week, first-grade students on Long Beach Island will be receiving backpacks courtesy of New Outlook Pioneers of New Jersey, an organization made up of retirees from several telecommunications companies. Robert Hofacker, a former New Pioneers chapter president in Morris County, said 37 backpacks would be donated to the Ethel A. Jacobsen School in Surf City, and seven more to the Beach Haven School.
“These are backpacks that can hold school supplies and small books,” he said. “They’re available in various colors – pink, green, black and blue.”
In addition, the organization has donated bags containing school supplies.
“It has pencils, erasers, books, scissors and other items,” Hofacker said.
Three years ago, the group donated backpacks and supplies to area schools as the area was recovering from Superstorm Sandy.
“We have also donated to first-graders in parts of North Jersey,” he said. “We strongly believe in giving to our communities.” —E.E.
