Power Outage Affects Parts of Stafford Township March 12

Mar 13, 2017

For nearly 90 minutes on Sunday, March 12, an estimated 6,600 customers in parts of Stafford Township were without power, and the culprit was a circuit breaker failure, according to Atlantic City Electric spokesman Frank Tedesco.

At about 10 a.m., the No. 7 transformer at the Cedar substation – located off Route 9 just to the south of Route 72 in Staffordville – went down, Tedesco said. The failure affected some 3,500 customers in Beach Haven West, about 1,750 in Manahawkin Terrace and another 1,380 in Staffordville.

The faulty circuit breaker was addressed and power was restored by 11:28 a.m., Tedesco said, but not before it affected the operations of many retailers on Route 72, including Walmart, IHOP and ShopRite. —D.B.
