Protectors of Humanity

Feb 02, 2017

To the Editor:

Trucks don’t kill people, people do. I could fill a page with a litany of inanimate objects plugged into the same sentence from fertilizer to the jawbone of an ass. Why do progressives wish to restrict the use of the one item that allows law-abiding citizens to even the odds in protecting themselves? Is it a real fear or a deceitful ruse intended to disarm a populace considered by social engineers as incapable of self-control?

Progressives often theorize that allowing people to carry firearms would result in a Wild West scenario with shoot-outs maiming innocents. This is disingenuous and demeaning. Our history as an armed citizenry proves otherwise.

There are a percentage of people among us who are natural protectors. They are the people we read about who go headlong into danger to save the life of another. They are not restricted by gender, sexual preference or party affiliation. While we all possess this dauntless genome, there are some in whom it is deeply imbedded.

We should encourage these sheep dog protectors of humanity to be voluntarily vetted, trained and then armed, and with a special license to carry and use a weapon anywhere, anytime. This would augment and assist our police, while instilling fear in the minds of those who would harm us.
