Put Photos, Memories on DVD at LBI Library Fundraiser
Do you have VHS tapes, 8mm or 16mm movies, slides or photo albums tucked away in shoe boxes, closets or drawers? Before those memories are lost or destroyed, you can consider having them converted to DVDs.
The Friends of the Island Library are giving people that opportunity during an upcoming fundraiser. On Saturday, Oct. 22, personal media can be brought to the Long Beach Island branch of the Ocean County Library in Surf City between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for conversion by professional technicians from Digital Memory Media.
Judy Bouton, Friends president, said participants would be notified of a date and time to retrieve the material at the library. She said 20 percent of the revenue from this, and any future orders, will go the Friends.
“Digitizing old movies, slides and photos make a wonderful holiday gift for our children and grandchildren,” she said. “As residents in a shore community, we understand just how difficult and expensive it can be to keep vital records and family photographs intact. Aging, humidity, not to mention accidental damage can ruin a lifetime of memories. That's why we are delighted to be working with Digital Memory Media to help our community preserve and safeguard their personal collections.”
