Reform Congregation Has Tuesday Afternoon Lectures
Rabbi Joshua Goldstein of Congregation Sha’arey Ha-Yam will be hosting lectures on Tuesdays, March 28 and April 4, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit in Manahawkin.
Formed initially in Barnegat Township, the congregation, whose name means “Gates of the Sea,” holds Friday Shabbat services at the church twice a month.
The topic for March 28 is “A Different Night: A Passover Haggadah Raising the Bar on the Seder Experience,” while the April 4 talk is titled “Mishkan Ha’Nefesh: The New Reform High Holy Day Mahzor Inclusive Judaism and Its Challenge to Jewish Uniqueness.”
Goldstein said the Mishkan Ha’Nefesh is a new prayer book that seeks to be “much more inclusive” as well as more culturally sensitive.
“These lectures are topics that challenge our Jewish identity and uniqueness,” he said.
