Rich Vos Headlines Barnegat Rotary Comedy Benefit
The Barnegat Rotary Club holds its third annual “Comedy for a Cause” benefit on Saturday, April 29, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Holiday Inn of Manahawkin. The featured comic is Rich Vos.
Tickets are $40 per person. The event features a buffet dinner and a cash bar. There will also be 50/50s, and a silent auction run by Memorabilia for Charities.
Luann Ford, Rotary president, said proceeds benefit the New Wave Swim Team, a Special Olympics team based in Manahawkin. Tickets are available at her accounting office, at 369 North Main St. (Route 9), or the W.B. Grant Agency, at 344 South Main St. People can also reserve by calling Ford at 732-278-3126 or going online at Eventbrite.
Vos has had a comedy career spanning more than 30 years. Career highlights include being the first Caucasian performer to appear on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, a program featuring African American comics, and hosting the Woodstock 1999 festival.
In 2001, the 59-year-old New Jersey native released a stand-up comedy album, I’m Killing Here. This was followed by the DVD Vos, consisting of an unedited, 55-minute performance recorded at the Stress Factory in New Brunswick.
He has also appeared on numerous Comedy Central programs and was featured on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.”
The Rotary club meets Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m. at Lefty’s Tavern in Barnegat. New members are welcome. —E.E.
