A four-man Stafford Township police team took the top spot out of 25 teams in last month’s Iron Team Endurance Competition of the Prince George’s County, Md., Police Department.

The Stafford team – comprised of Det. Steve Fessler and Officers Mike Wade, Gio Demarco and Anthony Vincent – bested 24 other teams in a grueling 16-event competition, a test of strength, endurance, teamwork and mental toughness. Events included team tire flip while wearing a gas mask, TRX legs to chest, chain drag, ball throws, trail runs, 100-yard zodiac boat carry and more. In second place was Toms River, followed by Lacey Township in third and Manchester fourth.

Stafford Township Councilman Steve Fessler commended the officers for their commitment to their duties, private fundraising efforts and months of dedication to training. He also thanked the local businesses for showing their support.

Sponsors of the teams’ trip included Stafford Township Police Foundation; Ice Cream Shop of Manahawkin; Fusaro’s Pizza; Retro Fitness; Thompson Chiropractic; Lydia’s Barbershop; Ray’s New York Pizza; Duck Cove Marina; Vincente Rodriguez; Damien Romeo; Shore Fire Grill; and Stafford Township PBA 297.  —V.F.
