Topnotch Responders

Jul 25, 2012

To the Editor:

I want to thank the Surf City Police Department and Surf City First Aid Squad for their help in response to my midnight call last Sunday. My 3-year-old son was having an asthma attack and I was not able to get it under control.

Within seconds of dialing 911, I was relieved to open the door for two police officers. They immediately struck up a good rapport with my son and checked on the arrival of the ambulance. The first aid squad was here within minutes and gave my son a little stuffed animal to hold while they assessed the situation.

Upon deciding it was best to go to the hospital, everyone was so supportive in helping me gather items for the trip and keeping my son in the best spirits as possible. It was about 2 a.m., but everyone was upbeat and helpful, as if it was just another sunny day in beautiful Surf City.

I’m very thankful for everyone who responded and helped my son and I get to the hospital quickly and safely. The Surf City First Aid Squad is made up of volunteers who respond day or night, quickly and professionally.

I recently learned that the Surf City Volunteer Fire Co. and EMS are hosting a Beach Blast fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. I encourage everyone to attend, have a “blast” and donate to this topnotch organization.
