Perseid Meteor Shower Watch at Bass River State Forest Aug. 11 and 12

Aug 06, 2018

Looking for a nice, dark location to view the Perseid meteor shower? Join volunteer “astronomy guide” Wayne Vogel at the Lake Absegami beach at Bass River State Forest to view the Perseids meteor showers on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 11 and 12, from 11 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. These celestial events occur when the Earth passes through dust released by a comet.

Bring a blanket or reclining chair; telescopes and binoculars are not necessary, and cloudy skies cancel. Insect repellent is suggested; also, if you bring a flashlight, keep it pointed down at all times.

The Bass River State Forest entrance is at 762 Stage Rd. in Bass River Township.

For a 2018 summer program schedule or for more information, contact the Forest Office at 609-296-1114 or —P.J.
