Each year the family of Arthur Szymanski holds its Memorial Charity Ride and Drive to honor him, a former longtime Surf City resident who passed away from cancer in January 2014, and to raise hope and money for those affected by cancer.

Szymanski was passionate about motorcyles, so his wife, Karen, and their three children – Steve, Sean and Kaitlyn – decided to honor his memory with an annual group ride.

This year’s event raised $11,000 for Ocean of Love, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Ocean County children with cancer, and their families; Robert Wood Johnson-Barnabas Hospice, part of the RWJBarnabas Health system in New Jersey; and David’s Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation.

After the ride, an after-party was held at the Captain’s Inn in Forked River, with a buffet; live music by Sneak Attack, for which Szymanski’s son Steve is the drummer; and an auction.
