‘About Boating Safely’ Course July 7 in Manahawkin

Learn about boating law, safety, navigation and more as part of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 053-07-04’s eight-hour, in-depth boating education course at the Bay Avenue Community in Manahawkin on Saturday, July 7. Registration is required by Wednesday, July 4.

Cost for the course, which runs 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., is $55, and includes lunch.

“This beginner boating class will give you the knowledge needed to obtain a boat license or safety certification in many states,” including New Jersey, the course description explains. “Many boat insurance companies will offer discounts on boating insurance to boaters who successfully complete ‘About Boating Safely.’”

Topics include: an introduction to boating, including types of boats, various power boat engines and family boating basics; boating law; safe boating, and boat safety equipment; navigation; potential problems; trailering, storing and protecting a boat; and boat-related activities such as hunting, fishing and waterskiing.

Additional sessions are scheduled for Aug. 4 and Sept. 1.

The Bay Avenue Community Center is located at 775 East Bay Ave. in Manahawkin.
