Oct 17, 2018

The adult writers group of the Long Beach Island branch of the Ocean County Library in Surf City is seeking new members. Moderator Jerry Bowe said writers of all skill levels are invited. The group meets every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., May through October, and on the first and third Tuesdays November through April in the meeting room at the branch.

The group was formed more than a decade ago by Margaret Hawke, who has since retired to Florida. Richard Morgan, a published poet, took over for her but has moved to North Carolina.

“The group reads and discusses all forms of original writings, fiction and non-fiction,” said Bowe. “The most common is short stories. But the groups consists of poets, screen writers, memoir writers and essayists. Any skill level is welcome. The group helps to sharpen each others’ writing skills through discussion of the works presented at the meetings. Everything is done in a friendly, constructive atmosphere.”

He said numerous members have had articles printed in The SandPaper and other publications.
“A few are in the process of writing books and hope to have them published in the near future,” he said. For more information, call the branch at 609-494-2480. E.E.
