Angel Trees Helping Needy Youngsters for the Holidays

Nov 16, 2018

The Barnegat-Waretown Chamber of Commerce is helping needy children through “angel trees” located inside numerous participating businesses. Instead of ornaments, the trees are decorated with gift card requests for underprivileged youngsters, which could say, for instance,  “girl, age 4,” or “boy, age 6.”

Participating businesses in Barnegat include Sweet Jenny’s on East Bay Avenue, Marchioni’s Pizza and Pasta and Fulton Bank on West Bay Avenue, and Lefty’s Restaurant on Route 9. Angel trees will also be located at the Waretown ShopRite on Route 9.

Bill Clanton Jr. said the trees will be up after Thanksgiving weekend.

“Anyone can stop in and pick up an ornament that lists the age and gender of the child, buy a gift and then return it unwrapped to the tree,” said Clanton. “Gift requests come from families referred by the Barnegat Food Pantry, which will arrange delivery of the items to the many families in Barnegat that need support. Programs like this show the true compassion of our community for those in need. Every child deserves to have something under the tree.”
