Art Bits: A selection of works from artists Victoria Ford and Donna Deely are on display at Sink ’R Swim Men’s Shop in Haven Beach. A reception is planned for “This and That” on Thursday, Aug. 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. Enjoy live music, Prosecco bar and bites from Blue Water Café.

Art Wrestling: The m.t. burton gallery, 1819 Long Beach Blvd. in Surf City, opens a new group exhibit, “Objective Clay,” on Saturday, Aug. 12. Meet contemporary ceramicist Bryan Hopkins during his all-day free demonstration starting at 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. The Beach Bash reception for the show is 6 to 9 p.m. and features “Art Wrestling,” a performance art piece of artists wrestling in the sculpture garden. Matt Burton will be manning the grill. The show continues through Sept. 5.

Perfected Tan: Constance Bosworth’s solo show “The Sunburn Paintings” is at the Birdland Gallery, located in Artifacts and Co., on the corner of Centre Street and Bay Avenue in Beach Haven.

Bosworth is a figurative painter and portrait artist who works in oils. She spent hours sketching swimmers, bathers and loungers at poolside and at the beach to develop the paintings that show the joy and sometimes the discomfort of living under the sun. The show continues through Aug. 20.

Shore Paintings: Solace Studio and Gallery, 2312 Long Beach Blvd., Surf City, features artists Jen Kelly, Lisa Macchi, Jane Feigenson and Jane Gagliardi-Plenge in an exhibit called “Contemporary,” through Aug. 13.

PSAA: The Pine Shores Art Association’s bi-annual exhibit “The Black and White Show” is at the gallery,  94 Stafford Ave. in Manahawkin, through Aug. 29. The gallery is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m.

PSAA offers low-cost workshops in collage, watercolor, gouache, tempera, oil and pastels. Jennifer LaVeglio teaches colored pencil techniques during a two-day workshop, Aug. 14 and 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Ellen Gavin teaches “Loosen up with Oils” two days: Aug. 16 and 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Ongoing pastel workshops with Linda Coulter continue from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays in the gallery through August. The fee is $20 per session; bring your own materials.

Ongoing portrait sessions are open to all artists for a nominal model fee, Sunday, 1 to 3 p.m., and Monday, 7 to 9 p.m. On Thursday is life drawing (undraped model) from 7 to 9 p.m. On Tuesday, 4 to 6 p.m., is Artists Helping Artists; drop in with your supplies for some friendly assistance. Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. is “do your own thing”; artists meet and create their own work.

PSAA artists exhibit works at the Tuckerton Seaport in the tradition of fishing, crabbing, clamming and the second theme is the American flag.

Brooklynites: Artists primarily from the Gowanus section of Brooklyn exhibit at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences with works that are “compelling visual experiences that will challenge the viewer.” The exhibit continues through Aug. 14.

LBIF’s Studio Sampler series continues: on Aug. 10, surf culture artist Julie Goldstein presents a relief printing workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $35; LBIF members get a 25 percent discount. On Aug. 15, artist Joyce Halliday presents “Capturing Color” for artists of all skill levels working in acrylic and oils.

Every Saturday through the summer, join Dallas Koenig in the ceramics studio from 1 to 5 p.m. All ages and levels of experience are welcome. To work with clay is $35 plus cost of clay; to paint available finished ceramics during a “Fire Me Up” session is $15 per object.

Open Studio Art Classes for the summer: Carol Freas teaches watercolor techniques on Wednesdays through Aug. 23, $40 each day, and Victoria Ford facilitates the Figure Drawing Class with live model on Fridays through Aug. 25, $20 each day. Both classes are from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Union Market: A new gallery/coffee house has opened in the Tuckerton Seaport. The Union Market and Gallery is an “artist-driven, patron-focused creative space.” Enjoy works by artisans plus coffee, baked goods and free Wi-Fi.

Art Chat: Artists meet at 10:15 a.m. the first and third Thursdays of each month at the Tuckerton Seaport Hunting Shanty for encouragement, news and support. Bring old or new works for discussion, and your coffee and treats. All are welcome.

Painted Poetry: A unique exhibit by 16 poets and 16 artists inspired by each other’s work is at the Island branch of the Ocean County Library, 217 South Central Ave. in Surf City. The reception, which includes a poetry reading, is on Aug. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Also in the Libraries: The Summer Art Show features works by 17 PSAA artists in the Stafford branch of the Ocean County Library.

In the Little Egg Harbor branch, teen artists exhibit through the months of July and August. —P.J.
