Makers Union: The Makers Fest of over 150 vendors of arts, crafts, food, etc. is on Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Manahawkin Lake on Route 9 in Stafford Township. Music, yoga and a beer garden round out the fest.

Meet the Artist: Wildflowers Too, 506 Broadway in Barnegat Light, features the work of Surf City artist Gwenn Seemel through September with a reception on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. At 4 p.m. the artist will give a talk about her unique process of making contemporary portraits.

Outside Works: All this summer, select artists have been painting the LBI scene outdoors in anticipation of the “Island Life: Plein Air Plus” exhibit, now at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences. Prizes will be awarded on Sept. 24 during the reception. The juror is Stewart White, president of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters of America.

The Life Drawing class on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with Victoria Ford has been extended another week, to Sept. 15. The fee is $20.

Fabric artist Sara Setzer teaches how to make a lightweight scarf incorporating felt and silk on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fee is $50; bring a plastic bag to take your creation home with you. Register at LBIFoundation.org/summer.

Every Saturday, join Dallas Koenig in the ceramics studio from 1 to 5 p.m. All ages and levels of experience are welcome. To work with clay is $35 plus cost of clay; to paint available finished ceramics during a “Fire Me Up” session is $15 per object.

New Ceramics: The m.t. burton gallery, 1819 Long Beach Blvd. in Surf City, presents the wood-fired pottery of Joel Brown and Deb Heid through Oct. 10.

In the Libraries: Oil paintings by Bud Sylvester are on display in the Island branch of the Ocean County Library in Surf City.

Lee Fricke and Amy King have a show at the Little Egg Harbor branch through October with a reception planned for Wednesday, Sept. 13, from 6 to 9 p.m.

PSAA: The Pine Shores Art Association’s photography show includes an exhibit by North Beach photographer Mike Lipton at the gallery, 94 Stafford Ave. in Manahawkin.

The gallery is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m.

PSAA offers a bus trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Nov. 16 to see the “Old Masters Now Exhibit” of the 1917 Johnson collection. The cost is $65 for members, $70 for nonmembers. PSAA offers low-cost workshops in collage, watercolor, gouache, tempera, oil and pastels. Glenys Baulderstone teaches Sumi-e Japanese ink painting on two Thursdays, Sept. 14 and 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Bring lunch; the fee is $50 for PSAA members, $75 for nonmembers. The supply list is available.

Ongoing portrait sessions are open to all artists for a nominal model fee, Sunday, 1 to 3 p.m., and Monday, 7 to 9 p.m. On Thursday is life drawing (undraped model) from 7 to 9 p.m. On Tuesday, 4 to 6 p.m., is Artists Helping Artists; drop in with your supplies for some friendly assistance. Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. is “do your own thing”; artists meet and create their own work.

Art Chat: Artists meet at 10:15 a.m. the first and third Thursdays of each month at the Tuckerton Seaport Hunting Shanty for encouragement, news and support. Bring old or new works for discussion, and your coffee and treats. All are welcome. —P.J.
