The man who robbed the Chase Bank in Manahawkin on Jan. 18 apparently tried to reprise the act at another local bank – but this time he got away without any cash.

On Friday, Jan. 26, shortly after 3 p.m., he apparently tried to hit the Wells Fargo Bank in the Stafford Square Plaza in Manahawkin.

Stafford Township Police responded after the alarm was activated, but he had already fled. He had entered the bank wearing the same getup he had before, a gray hooded sweatshirt and black aviator sunglasses (but no lollipop this time), and began to write what appeared to be a note at the banking slip counter. Bank tellers demanded he remove his sunglasses and hood, at which time he fled the bank with the note, running west through the ShopRite parking lot.

Police do believe the man in question is the same subject from the Chase Bank robbery and are investigating the incident with the Ocean County Sheriff's Department Criminal Investigation Unit and the FBI.

Anybody with any information regarding the case may contact Det. Drew Smith of the Stafford Township Police Department at 609-597-1189, extension 8435.  —V.F.
