Alexa Daley, a student at the Russell Brackman Middle School in Barnegat Township, was recently  crowned Miss New Jersey Junior Teen 2018 at the International Junior Miss Scholarship Pageant in Parsippany. In addition to winning the title, she also won the competition’s Spirit Award for embodying the spirit and character of the program. Daley will travel to San Antonio to compete in the IJM State Queen international competition in July 2018, representing New Jersey.

The daughter of Gary and Rhonda Daley, the eighth-grade student said it was her first pageant.

“I wanted to try something different,” said Daley. “I wanted to help others through community service and public outreach and become a positive role model. It was really amazing to me that I won, because this was a new experience for me.”

She said the pageant presents itself as more than a beauty contest, “presenting a platform for young women to feel confident in who they are,” according to the program’s website.

At school, history, English and writing are her favorite subjects. She is also cheerleader with the Prime Time All-Stars in Forked River.

Daley noted that she will embrace any opportunity to appear and speak at community events, such as nursing homes, hospitals, and civic and charity events, using her crown to be a positive influence. Requests for appearances should be emailed to missnewjerseyjuniorteen@gmail.com.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available to help offset the cost of pageant travel. Those who are interested can submit information to the email address or call 920-737-0817. —E.E.
