Barnegat Man Charged in Drug-Induced Death

Feb 13, 2019

A Barnegat Township man was arrested last week by the detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and Narcotics Strike Force and charged with strict liability drug induced death.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Bilhimer said that on Jan. 10, officers from the Point Pleasant Police Department were dispatched to a local residence for a report of an unresponsive female. The female was transported to Ocean Medical Center where she died two days later.

Bilhimer said a subsequent investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Narcotics Strike Force and Point Pleasant Police Department revealed that Curtis Geathers, 33, was the supplier of heroin and fentanyl that was sold to the victim. A toxicology report confirmed that the heroin and fentanyl supplied by Geathers matched the heroin and fentanyl located in the victim’s system. The toxicology report confirmed that the heroin and fentanyl found in the victim’s system were the cause of her death.

Geathers was taken to the Point Pleasant Police Department for processing and then transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he is currently lodged pending a detention hearing.  —E.E.
