Officer Is ‘Good Samaritan’ on Way to Work

Jan 09, 2019

Barnegat Township Police Chief Keith Germain believes the secret to hiring great officers is to start by hiring good human beings. He said this was evident on Dec. 27, when  Officer Anthony Carlo, who is assigned to the Crime Reduction Unit, was driving to work when he saw a disabled vehicle stuck in the travel lane of Barnegat Boulevard. Carlo stopped to help and discovered the driver had run out of gas.

Germain said Carlo pushed the vehicle out of the roadway to a safe location and then drove to the closest gas station to fill a portable gas can for the driver.

“Not only did Officer Carlo go out of his way to help the motorist before he was even on duty, he paid for the gas himself,” said Germain. “Hats off to Officer Carlo for giving us yet another example of how our officers go the extra mile to serve this great community.” —E.E.
