Barnegat Police Arrest Burglary Suspect

Jan 29, 2014

An Eagleswood Towship resident was recently arrested in connection with the burglary and theft of jewelry from a Spruce Lane residence in Barnegat Township.

Lt. Keith Germain said officers initially took the report of the incident on Jan. 5 when the homeowner contacted police after noticing cash, jewelry and her debit card had been taken from the residence. The suspect had gained entry through an unlocked front door.

Germain said an investigation resulted in the arrest of Kelly Grotts, 31, of West Creek. He said Detective William Hetrick was able to reover the stolen items from a local pawn shop, and then identify the suspect.

Grotts was charged with burglary and theft and was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River on $5,000 bail. —E.E.
