Barnegat Police: Drug Suspect Tried to Run Down Officer

Jun 07, 2017

Two Barnegat Township men were charged with various drug offenses following their arrests early in the evening of June 1 in the 7-Eleven parking lot on West Bay Avenue. Lt. Jeff Ryan said that around 7 p.m., the police department’s narcotics unit was conducting an investigation at that location. During the investigation, Ryan said, Timothy Milton, 48, backed his car up and struck both Det. Richard Nowak, who was out of his vehicle at the time, and Nowak’s vehicle.

As a result of this, officers drew their weapons and ordered the occupants of Milton’s vehicle out of the car. Milton was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of heroin with intent to distribute in a school zone, eluding police, aggravated assault and tampering with evidence.

In addition,  Kyle Frate, 32,  was charged with possession of heroin and wandering/loitering to obtain controlled dangerous substance. Ryan said Nowak was not injured.

Milton was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River on a no-bail warrant. Frate was released on a municipal court summons. E.E.
