Barnegat Rotary Helps Families in Need for Easter

Apr 04, 2018

The Barnegat Rotary Club conducted its annual Easter food collection for the Barnegat Food Pantry in cooperation with the Barnegat Acme Market. Bob Devana, club service project chairman, said the organization purchased meals for 30 needy families.

“We spent $612.41 and received a $125 gift card from Acme on Easter meals for the Barnegat Food Pantry,” said Devana. “Each food basket included hams and sides that included cans of corn, mashed potatoes, rolls and pies.”

Jon Welch, Acme store manager, said he gave the Rotary discounts on hams.

“We strongly believe in being charitable to the communities we serve,” he said. “Besides the Barnegat food pantry, we also donate to the pantry at St. Mary’s (Catholic Church).”

Devana said other Rotary community projects include Thanksgiving food baskets and the Christmas Elf gift-buying program.

“Most of the money we spend to help families comes from fundraising events held during the year,” he said.

The club meets every Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. at Lefty’s Tavern. For membership information, call President Bill Ridgway at 609-698-2162. —E.E.
