Barnegat School District Has New Business Administrator

Nov 28, 2018

The Barnegat Township Board of Education recently hired Steve Brennan to serve as business administrator. Brennan, who is also board of education secretary, comes over from the Pinelands Regional School District, where he had also served as secretary/administrator.

Brennan replaces Lourdes LaGuardia, who left to take the business administrator’s post for the Stafford Township School District. She had been in the Barnegat post since 2006.

“We were looking for someone who had past experience as a school business administrator,” said district Superintendent Brian Latwis. “We have a big district with a $57 million budget to manage, so it’s very important to have someone who can step in and get to work right away.”

Brennan has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Rowan University and a master’s degree in business administration from Monmouth University.

“The biggest challenge will be working for a larger school district,” said Brennan, a certified public accountant. “Barnegat has between 3,500 and 4,000 (students), which is around double the student population at Pinelands. Barnegat is also a K-12 district, while Pinelands is (grade) seven to 12.”

Brennan said one project he is busy with is establishing a preschool program, for which the district was awarded a Preschool Education Expansion Aid grant from the state Department of Education.

“And then after the new year, it won’t be long until we start on the budget,” he said.  —E.E.
