The borough of Beach Haven will continue to accept donations of gift cards of less than $20 and checks or money orders to the U.S. Coast Guard for the time being.

Mary Clare Bunce, assistant borough manager, said that although the government has been reopened, federal employees have still not been paid and face another shutdown by Feb. 15 if an agreement is not reached between President Trump and Congress by Feb 15.

“The money that they receive will go toward paying bills, rent and mortgages,” she said.

Bunce said that since the Coast Guard cannot accept money, the Jersey Shore CPOA (Chief Petty Officers Association) will be accept donations and distribute the money. The checks/money orders can be made out to Jersey Shore CPOA and sent to the group at 20 Crispin Rd., Highlands, N.J. 07732.

Donations can also be sent to the Borough of Beach Haven, 300 Engleside Ave., Beach Haven, N.J. 08008, to the attention of the borough clerk’s office. Food donations are not needed.

For more information, contact the borough clerk’s office at 609-492-0111, extension 215.  E.E.
