Beautiful Day

May 30, 2018

To the Editor:

After just recently becoming a patient at a local nursing home I’ve learned a lot about consolidating my life into a 10- by 20-foot room and a lot of new friends.

After three weeks of on and off rain, we had the most beautiful summer day possible. The administrator and his staff, nurses and volunteers planned an outside Memorial Day barbecue picnic for everyone with hot dogs, chicken and good old-fashioned music under tents.

Every resident was brought outside, whether in wheelchairs or beds, to celebrate. More than 75 people smiled and ate like they didn’t have a care in the world. The administrator greeted each one personally, making everyone feel and know life is not as boring as you think in a shoebox.

It’s not about waiting for the storm to stop – it’s about learning to dance in the rain.
