Bella’s Café: Evenings With ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ and More

May 30, 2018

On June 6, Bella’s Café in Barnegat Township began serving customers at 689 E. Bay Avenue.

Co-owner Mark Falk said the establishment will specialize in high-end desserts and blended non-alcoholic drinks in an atmosphere “where you feel like you're dining in someone’s home rather than an establishment.”

He said desserts would include an array of cakes and tortes. “One of them is called Snickers chocolate truffle,” said Falk. “Another one is peanut butter explosion.”

Falk said the blended liquid concoctions would include frozen drinks, coffee, cappuccino, espresso and teas.

“My wife (Dee) and I thought there was a strong need for a cozy, romantic, darkly lit place where people can sit down and relax,” said Falk. “The décor is Mediterranean style. We’ll also be open later than most of the other establishments here, so it will be a good place for people wanting a dessert or a non-alcoholic drink well after dinner. It has a different feel than going into a restaurant.”

One dessert highlighted is “White Chocolate Decadence,” featuring four thin layers of vanilla cake filled with white chocolate mousse and raspberry purée. It is iced in vanilla butter and surrounded by white chocolate flakes.

“Light Side of the Moon” has two layers of fudge cake soaked with raspberry brandy and filled with raspberry purée. It is iced in vanilla crème topped with a black and white chocolate mousse.

Various friends stopped by on opening night to wish the Falks well.

“It’s cozy, relaxing,” said Joe Pernal.

“It’s so adorable and has very attractive artwork,” said Emily Powers. “It’s the perfect place to go for some late-night refreshment.”

Hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 4 to 11 p.m., Saturday 2 to 11 and Sunday 2 to 10.

“For now, we’ll be closed on Monday and Tuesday,” said Falk.

The café is located at 689 E. Bay Ave. For more information, call 609-713-3684.  —E.E.
