Big Success

Nov 07, 2018

To the Editor:

The 22nd Annual Sea Shell Club Striped Bass Derby was a big success. Not because of the weather – it was horrible. Not because of the turnout – 37 boats and 124 anglers (impressive considering the weather; thank you anglers). Not because of the fish – there were only two, but both in the 40-pound range.

It was a success because, with the help of the LBI business and fishing community, Shore Point Distributors and Tito’s, we raised over $27,000 for Coastal Volunteers in Medicine, a free, not-for-profit medical clinic in Manahawkin that serves those in Ocean County who do not have medical insurance. In addition, and despite the weather, a great time was has by all who attended the festivities.

Congratulations to the captain and crew of the Fin Chaser II and the XYZ. A special goodbye to our great friend and the best striper fisherman I have ever known, Walter Johnson III. Thank you all for your support. We look forward to seeing you next year.
