Barnegat Leader

Bille One and Done as Barnegat Township Mayor

Dec 15, 2017

The Barnegat Township Committee meeting on Dec. 5 marked the final time Albert Bille will be sitting in the mayor’s chair.

Unlike some forms of government where candidates run for mayor, Barnegat committee members choose a mayor from among themselves each year at the January reorganization.

“I will not be the mayor in 2018,” said Bille, who was first elected to the all-Republican committee in 2010. “It’s been an honor and privilege to serve as mayor. It can sometimes consume 50 hours a week. I welcome the emails and personal contact I receive almost daily.”

Bille, who has served as deputy mayor, said 2017 was an especially busy year.

“We spent an awful lot of time getting the police contract resolved,” he said. “We also got Project Playground repaired and reopened, as well as our pocket parks and skate park.”

Bille’s term on the committee expires at the end of 2019.

“My goal as mayor was to foster Barnegat pride and I think we have established a great beginning. All the work was worth it because we did get a lot done.” —E.E.
