Black Sea Bass Meeting Pushed Back Due to Blizzard

The New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council meeting and public hearing on a draft addendum to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Council Black Sea Bass Fishery Management Plan, originally scheduled for Jan. 4, has been rescheduled for this Thursday, Jan. 11. The council meeting begins at 5 p.m., and the public hearing begins at 7:15 p.m. Both will be held at the Stafford Township Municipal Building, 260 East Bay Ave. in Manahawkin.

Black sea bass are managed jointly by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council. The objectives of the FMP are to reduce fishing mortality to assure overfishing does not occur; to reduce fishing mortality on immature black sea bass to increase spawning stock biomass; to improve yield from the fishery; to promote compatible regulations among states and between federal and state jurisdictions; to promote uniform and effective enforcement; and to minimize regulations necessary to achieve the stated objectives.
