A great bargain on a new designer mattress is an opportunity not to be taken lying down – especially when the proceeds from sales benefit a local cause: new camping equipment for Boy Scout Troop 65.

Partnership Fundraising will transform the Holiday Inn’s Mainland Ballroom into a pop-up mattress showroom and sales event on Sunday, Feb. 10, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Shoppers can browse Simmons Beauty Rest and Restonic mattresses, new and labeled, with five different levels of quality and price to choose among, as well as a complete array of pillows, sheets and mattress covers, according to organizer John Fiore of Brant Beach. “We’ve gone out into the marketplace and bought factory showroom samples,” he explained, which they can re-sell at a fraction of the retail value. He’s expecting a good crowd, he added.

The beds are ready to “test drive,” priced well below market value with a small in-home delivery fee and ready to be purchased with the help of no-pressure mattress industry associates.

Restonic is a brand known to fans of HGTV’s Property Brothers, Drew and Jonathan Scott.

Fiore has spent his summers on Long Beach Island since 1942 and has owned a house in Brant Beach for 35 years. His career in the mattress industry took him through sales, marketing, design and manufacturing. In his retirement, he and Dan Thigpen started Partnership Fundraising, which shares a percentage of profits with charitable causes.

The Boy Scouts will be collecting donations for a food drive in conjunction with the mattress sale, so shoppers who bring non-perishable food items will receive a thank-you gift.

Similar mattress sale events were held last year, at the Ship Bottom Firehouse in June and at St. Mary’s Parish Center in September, that raised thousands of dollars for first aid equipment and for the Hunger Relief Foundation of Southern Ocean County.  —V.F.
