Sep 26, 2017

The body of a Belmar man has been identified after being found in the ocean off Berkeley Township Monday, Sept. 25, New Jersey State Marine Police said.

Christopher Lucin, age 30, whose last known address was Belmar, was recovered Monday morning after his family last saw him the previous Tuesday, Sept. 19, police said.

More details on the case are pending an investigation, which includes an autopsy, said Lt. Ted Schafer of the New Jersey State Police Marine Law Enforcement Bureau. The cause of death has not been determined, he said.

The body was spotted at 8:15 a.m. floating in the ocean off of Berkeley Township by the commercial vessel New Horizon, whose personnel contacted authorities.

State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard responded and the victim was placed on a State Police boat and transported to U.S. Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light. The State Police Major Crimes Unit is in charge of the investigation.

Next of kin has been notified, police said.

“The subject was known to be missing. The case is still under investigation,” Schafer said Tuesday afternoon.  —M.S.
