Broadway Star and More on Tap at Southern Regional

Oct 12, 2018

The newly renovated theater at Southern Regional will host an appearance by Broadway star Mandy Gonzalez on Friday, Oct. 12 for music and theater students at the school.

It will be the only such appearance at a school in conjunction with the upcoming “Mandy Gonzalez: Fearless” concert at the Grunin Center in Toms River Nov. 2. Gonzalez, known for her powerful voice, portrayed the role of Nina in the Tony Award-winning musical “In the Heights,” Elphaba in “Wicked” and is currently starring in the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton” as Angelica Schuyler.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to find out more about Mandy Gonzalez and the musical journey that got her to Broadway,” says Carolyn Placa, Southern’s choir director.

At the Nov. 2 performance, the Southern Regional Select Choir along with five other local high schools will perform two songs with Gonzalez.

Discounted tickets for the 8 p.m. show can be reserved by calling Jaclyn Wood at 732-255-0400, extension 2487.
