Buckle Up, Back Seaters

May 23, 2018

To the Editor:

Harvey Cedars Police Chief Burnaford, in last week’s paper, commented that “there seems to be a disconnect with people feeling they don’t need to buckle up when riding as a passenger in rear seats, and this is a concern.” I never buckled up on those rare occasions I was in a back seat. Now I do.

At the end of 2016 I was rear-ended on Route 38. The car was totaled. My friend and I in the front seat were both taken away in ambulances, even though we were buckled. The man in the back seat was buckled. He walked away unhurt even though the collision was from the rear. He probably would have been badly injured or killed if he had not been.

Now I always buckle up when in the back seat.
