Candidates for Beach Haven Council Uncontested

Sep 12, 2018

Unless there is a successful write-in campaign, the two candidates who filed last week for the Beach Haven Borough Council election in November are assured of winning since they are uncontested for the two seats.

The candidates are Jamie Baumiller and Daniel Allen. Baumiller is a science teacher at New Egypt High School. Allen, who is a member of the land use board, is manager of Mordecai Boat Basin in Beach Haven. The business was founded more than 30 years ago by his father, George Allen, who served as a borough commissioner under the old form of government.

Incumbent council members Jim White and Donald Kakstis declined to seek re-election. Kakstis cited “personal reasons” for not running again and declined further comment; White could not be reached for comment as of press time.

White was one of five members of a new borough council when Beach Haven’s new form of government went into effect in July 2010. He originally did not seek reelection in 2014, but ended up back on the council after getting enough write-in votes to win one of two seats open at the time. Kakstis won the other council seat.

Neither Baumiller nor Allen could be reached for comment. E.E.
