Barnegat Township police are looking for a vehicle authorities believe was involved in a possible drive-by shooting Monday evening.

Police Chief Keith Germain said that shortly after 7:30 p.m. on May 7, police received a report of gunshots in the area of Lexington Boulevard. Arriving officers found no activity or victim in the area, but were able to determine that someone had been injured at the location.

Germain said that shortly thereafter, the Stafford Township Police Department advised that a 26-year-old male from Ocean Gate was located at Southern Ocean Medical Center suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg. Further investigation by Barnegat detectives confirmed that the male had been shot in the leg.

Germain said the victim, whose name was not released, does not wish to cooperate with authorities.

He said the department is currently looking for a 2006 black Honda Pilot with N.J. registration X88JRM. Anyone who sees the vehicle is asked to immediately call 911.

Anyone with information concerning the shooting can contact Detective William Hetrick at 609-698-5000, extension 218. E.E.
