Chart the Course for 2018 at ‘State of the Chamber’

Economic Forecast, Visitor Profile Analysis
Dec 06, 2017

Starting the new year with an informative “State of the Chamber” forum with nationally known speakers is a Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce tradition. The event takes place Jan. 10 at The Mainland Holiday Inn in Manahawkin, with registration starting at 8:15 a.m.

Economic updates from economist Joel Naroff and a Visitor Profile Analysis from Stockton University are on the program.

“The State of the Chamber is the most anticipated business event of the year, bringing together local business leadership to start the year with the information that will help them chart a successful course throughout 2018,” said Lori Pepenella, chamber chief executive officer.

“With all the changes on a federal and state level, attendees can expect to benefit from the expertise of keynote speaker, Joel Naroff, Ph.D.,” added a press release from the chamber.

“This nationally recognized economic forecaster is back by popular demand to address the membership on the current and future business climate in New Jersey, U.S and on a global level.”

Naroff’s humor and unique ability to make economics understandable have brought him a wide following. He is often quoted in the national press, including Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today and Business Week. Internationally, British, French, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Brazilian and Chilean news agencies quote his materials.

He appears frequently on CNBC, Fox Business News and Bloomberg Television. In addition, he has been on “ABC’s World News Tonight,” “The News Hour with Jim Lehrer,” “The Wall Street Journal Report,” BNN in Canada, Money Matters TV and local television stations throughout the Northeast.

On the radio, Naroff does business commentary for KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia and can be heard often on the national news radio networks.

The chamber will also present Brian Tyrrell from Stockton University, who will explain and examine the 2017 Visitor Profile Study that was taken at various locations in the region this past summer.

The breakdown will provide how best to market and tailor services based on the findings for both Long Beach Island and the mainland, chamber officials said.

Tyrrell graduated from the doctoral program in restaurant, hotel, institutional and tourism management at Purdue University. He is a tenured professor of hospitality and tourism management studies in the School of Business at Stockton University.

Tyrrell served as president of the faculty senate for two years, as well as a councilman for Galloway Township.

Also at the meeting, the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors will announce its 2018 business and promotion calendar for upcoming events.

The State of the Chamber is presented in partnership with Atlantic City Electric.

The cost is $40 per person with an RSVP to the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce.
