Children Crying in the Night

Aug 22, 2018

Children crying in the night

Will they stop by morning light?

Taken away from those they know

Knowing not where they will go.

Seeing no familiar faces

They end up different places

Sleeping next to many others

Not their sisters or their brothers.

Parents taken far away

Not seen for many days

By a government turned cruel

Following unbending rules.

Is this what we have become?

Only welcoming to some,

Considering ourselves first,

Showing the world our very worst.

Are we not land of the free

That guarantees liberty

To many different strangers

Fleeing life’s threatening dangers?

Children crying in the night

Will they stop by morning light?

Taken away from those they know

Knowing not where they will go.
