Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light will be holding its 15th annual Open House on Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It has proven to be a popular event, with over 1,000 people attending in 2017.

The open house promotes safe family boating, so it features personal flotation device fittings, and free life jackets will be given away every hour. There will also be knot-tying demonstrations, Coast Guard history displays and tours of the station’s patrol boats. Environmental groups will send representatives to discuss their efforts to protect wildlife and the marine environment.

Members of USCG Auxiliary District Five Northern Region Flotilla 74, based in Manahawkin, will be present selling hot dogs, water and soda, as well as Coast Guard T-shirts. They’ll also be raffling a patriotic watch, a framed large photo of Barnegat Lighthouse and a wooden model of the USCG cutter Eagle, a 295-feet barque used to train cadets at the USCG Academy that is affectionately known as “America’s Tall Ship.”

Most important of all, guests will have the opportunity to meet and talk to the men and women of the nation’s smallest military force.

The event is free. USCG Station Barnegat Light is located at 601 Bayview Ave. in Barnegat Light—R.M.
